Bateau-mouche or Batobus?

Hi

We got to Paris next Sunday for a month (CANNOT wait!!!). We%26#39;re a family of 5 - youngest child is 11. We%26#39;re on a tight budget, and we want to do some kind of boat trip on the Seine.

Can somebody recommend whether the bateau-mouche or the batobus is better? Cost is a bit criterion:) When I searched for bateau-mouche, I mostly found dinner cruises, but we just want to sail up and down the Seine in the daytime.

This forum is so great - thanks for your help.

Hello trocadero99

We were in Paris last week and looked at all the boat companies while we were there and also checked on here before we left.

In my opinion you cannot beat the Vedettes du Pont Neuf....

http://www.vedettesdupontneuf.com/

If you print off their voucher you can also save 2 euros each. We travelled at night so we could see the tower lit up! Very romantic and only 18 euros in total! The boats you mention are much bigger than the Vedettes and look to be more geared up for coaches and large groups....we found the Vedettes to be more personal and the staff at the quayside and on-board were very friendly.

I hope you have a wonderful time in Paris

Hi;

Bateaux Mouche is one company that offers hour long Seine cruises, also dinner cruises, lunch cruises.

Batobus is a water taxi that has some eight stops in central Paris.

Here is the Batobus website:

http://www.batobus.com/english/index.htm

You will see you get a day pass for 12 euros 6 euros for under 16.

There are cruise companies other than Bateaux Mouche.

Try Vedettes du Pont Neuf:

And print out their internet coupons... a big savings or a family of 5....

All the Cruise compnies pretty much follow the same route. Difference is in size of boats. Some prefer the larger, some the smaller....

The batobus is really a form of public (private?) transportation that allows you to hop on and off the boat to get to destinations along the Seine. The bateau mouche (lower case for generic term) is a long low boat that takes you for a 45-60 minute ride up and down the Seine with commentary played over loudspeakers in multiple languages or via a handheld device.

There are several bateau mouche companies, including one called Bateaux Mouche. Other companies include Vedettes Parisian and one that I am blanking out on right now. But if you do a search for %26quot;Seine river cruise%26quot; in the search field for this forum, you will find more information. Also, you%26#39;ll find plenty of cruises that aren%26#39;t dinner cruises.

Thanks everyone

I think I%26#39;ll go wtih the Vedettes - you can get a 4 euro discount by pre-ordering online. Thanks again. I appreciate your wealth of information and generosity in sharing:)

Sorry, I meant Vedettes du Pont Neuf and Bateaux Parisiens as the other companies. But it looks like you%26#39;ve made your selection! You%26#39;ll have a great time!
