I just booked a ticket for a week in Paris and need to start planning. My husband and I have never been anywhere in France before, including Paris. I know it will likely be hot and am wondering if we need to be concerned about museums and things being closed in the begining of Sept. or if that is more an issue only in August.
Also wondering if a week in Paris could be too much - we kind of booked this on the spur of the moment without much research yet. Should I look into some day trips elsewhere or even take the train elsewhere for overnight or just plan on the whole week in Paris? We do like art and museums quite a bit so I%26#39;m thinking that the hwole time in Paris is probably good, but then again I don%26#39;t know what day trips we would be %26quot;missing out on%26quot;.
Thanks in advance for any tips; awaiting travel guides in the mail and trying to get an idea of what to plan.

A week is definitely not too long. And, if you can%26#39;t think of any day trips you%26#39;re longing to take, it%26#39;s probably best to stay in Paris.
The weather could be warm, and it probably won%26#39;t be too hot, but you never know.
You should book a hotel or apartment ASAP, as they fill quickly way ahead for September.

First time? A week should be perfect! Especially if you like art and museums! It can get hot, but the worst of it is usually in August but most everything should be open in September.
In a week you have time to see a lot in Paris! You can still day trip to Chartres, Giverny, Fountainbleau, etc. if you want, but there is a lot to do and see in Paris!
IMHO, Versailles is the better part of an entire day. Some people are able to get there at opening, see the chateau and %26quot;some%26quot; of the gardens and get back to Paris by mid-afternoon.
My personal rule on museums is to spend no more than 2-3 hours at a time inside. For the Louvre, this means going back at least once every trip! The Orsay is easily digestible in 2-3 hours. As is the Cluny, Marmottan, Invalides, etc.....
If it were me, I%26#39;d spend most of the time in Paris, a day at Versailles. For a first time, Paris should be enough to keep you two busy. Assume you will return, and you%26#39;ll be able to plan to see other parts of France then.

I completely agree with the previous post. You will have plenty to do and see. You can really use this time to visit museums, people watch, have picnics...
You will learn a lot from previous threads and guide books - which quarter to stay in...fun places to eat...
September is a great time to go!
Have a great trip - and half the fun is planning it!

A week is definitely not too long. There is plenty to see and do, even if you are not a museum buff as I am not. I am going back in November for 5 days and already know that won%26#39;t be long enough!! Wish I had more time and money!!!

We spent a week in Paris last November. We wished we had much more time. So, we are going back again next March, for another week. We fell in love with Paris.
Do your research and only you can decide whether you want to venture outside Paris. We didn%26#39;t last trip, but are planning on a day in Versailles and a couple of days in Reims/Epernay for next trip.
There%26#39;s so much to see and do.
Paris is without a doubt our favorite city.

Planning a %26quot;mother daughter%26quot; trip to Paris and Italy next year – which will be my third trip to Paris.
My first was in April 2005. We spent 3 weeks there and could have spent 3 more, easily. The second was for a week in September 2008, which we spent reacquainting ourselves with places we loved on our first trip as well as experiencing new things. (The weather was pleasant – warm but not too hot, by the way.)
Just published my proposed itinerary on as a goList (“Paris with Pam”) – it might help provide a starting point for your planning.
