Inland Brittany

Hello

my wife and I are leaving for Brittany next week.

We pretty much know where we%26#39;re heading around the coast. What%26#39;s missing, however, are unique places to see and stay away from the coast in the forests and hills.

we plan to head up from Vannes to either Pontivy or Ploƫrmel or from Quimper to Gourin and then down to Morbihan coast. we have plenty of time for that (car rental and on-the-go-accommodation is how we always roll).

Please advise

The area around and north of Huelgoat is worth visiting; there are a number of fine parish closes and ancient churches to visit. The rocks and woods around Huelgoat are very impressive.

The forest of Paimpont is where according to legend Merlin lived; his tomb is said to be there, and the spot can be visited. The forest itself is worth exploring, including the market village of Paimpont. Josselin castle, between Vannes and Rennes more or less, is one of the best preserved in France and possesses a beautiful site--high atop a river.
