Excellent B&B near Auxerre

If you are looking for a lovely place to stay while touring this part of Burgundy (just 2+ hours from Paris), try the Carpe Diem B%26amp;B in the tiny village of Massangis. There are just 3 guest rooms. Ours was in the main house (the two others are just across the garden; we did not see them) and was essentially the top floor of the house. The bedroom was large, spotless and furnished beautifully. The bed was very comfortable. The WC was separate from the bathroom, and there was also a sitting room chock-a-block with the owner%26#39;s collections of old books, prints, magazines, etc.

Patrick Cabon, the owner, is charming and helpful. He prepares an ample and attractively presented Continental breakfast, including a tasty poundcake-like loaf that he bakes himself. Patrick has a white cat that you may spot, although he is shy and tries to avoid the guests.

All of this for -- hold your hat -- 60 euros for a double! We spent 2 weeks in -- Burgundy, Alsace and Paris -- and this was the nicest place we stayed, and for the least amount of money.

The website is www.acarpediem.com.

I hope I haven%26#39;t oversold this place, but we really enjoyed our

Since you wrote this 3 times,(%26quot;copy and paste %26quot; are always useful) I%26#39;m sure you like it very much! ;-)

Are you a member of the family? :-)

To happyindijon: No, I%26#39;m not a member of the family. I just wasn%26#39;t sure where to post it to make sure that people going to the area see it, because the town is really just a wide place in the road, not too far from the places people like to visit, like Auxerre and Vezelay. So I posted it where I thought visitors to those places might look. Sorry if that bothered you.

No problem at all regburns.

But if you check Bugundy forum(not the general%26quot; France%26quot; one) you%26#39;ll see your postings quite close to each other.

What you can do if you want the general forum to see your posting again is write like I%26#39;m doing now and it will appear again at the top of the listing.

Bonne journée :-)

regburns - am considering a weekend in this area. Can you say if the bedroom you stayed in was quiet. We once stayed in a B%26amp;B that was a lovely old home, but you could hear every creak and, unfortunately, every conversation that went on in the house.

The B%26amp;B is right on the village%26#39;s %26quot;main%26quot; road, which is a simple two-way street really. During the day, there are some large trucks going by because there is a quarry just outside the town. We were a bit concerned about the truck noise, but it stopped by the end of the workday. The nights were very quiet, at least the two nights we were there.

Thanks very much. I will keep it in my list of possibles.

I would like to second the comments made by regburns. I just got back from France last night and stayed at Carpe Diem last week. It was by far the most charming place we stayed in all of France. Patrick is wonderful and helpful as well. Absolutely beautiful.

Found this informative as i was about to check out the Carpe Diem myself. We are 2 couples looking to stop in Burgundy en route from Geneva to Paris (late September).

Would you say this is centrally located and a good base for a night or two? Scenic?
