Booking hotels in Paris

We are in the process of planning a trip to Europe for September 2009. Is it advisable to book hotels well in advance this time of the year or can we wait several weeks before we arrive and keep an eye out for special deals.

If you have your eye on a certain hotel, I would definitely book well in advance... you have more choice, also in price ranges.

Good luck!

It is quite usual for hotels to refuse bookings in advance of 6 months or so, if you keep getting %26#39;not available%26#39; or something like that, you are probably trying too soon.

I usually plan trips 6 months ahead, and book hotels at least 3-4 months ahead. There aren%26#39;t any special deals in Paris except for July 15-Aug 31 summer promos, and maybe some cold months AFTER the holidays. Some months and at some hotels you will get price SPIKES due to conventions and shows going on. September is not a month you are going to get any deals. I would book something by May 09.

If online booking shows %26quot;not available%26quot; try calling the hotel or using email. (Calling is more direct for a small place.)

If you book and they drop the rate, ask for the new rate on your booking. Check the cancellation policy--should be at least 2 weeks in advance in case something new pops up.

Thank you all for your advice. Very much appreciated.
