Day trip to a wine region from Paris?

Can anyone recommend a wine region that%26#39;s reachable from Paris for a day trip? Preferably by train? Looks like the Champagne area is closer but I think we%26#39;d prefer the Bourgogne region. I%26#39;ve heard that there is a TVG train that takes you to an area of the Bourgogne with wineries right there. Would appreciate any thoughts!

We had a wonderful day in Reims a couple weeks ago. Took the TGV from Paris (about a 45 minute ride).

If you do decide to go there, book your tours in advance. Some of the champagne houses run tours in English if you need them, but at specific times. The more popular houses book up quickly.

If you want to learn about champagne making, the Martell house has a great tour that includes a video of the process, and their caves have a lot of vintage manufacturing equipment. Their caves are not large, but the tour is very good. Pommery has huge caves and wonderful art throughout the tour.

Have a great trip!

Many thanks, Karl and Signe! I take it that you were able to walk or take a quick cab or bus ride to the vineyards from the train station? Thanks again!

I would love to know about this as well... I would love to take a day trip by train to a place where we could take a wine tour...

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

We walked from the train station to the Visitor Center, which is located next to the Cathedral, and maybe a mile from the train. Depending on your needs or mood, you may wish to take a cab or bus. The bus system in Reims (called TER) is very good, and relatively cheap (1 Euro per ride, or 3 Euro for a day pass, IIRC). You can buy tickets as you board the bus. The bus ride from the center of town to Pommery was maybe 10 minutes, and from Pommery, we walked to Veuve-Cliquot and Martell. The walk from Pommery to VC was maybe 10 minutes, and about the same from VC To Martell. From Martell, we took the bus straight back to the train station.

Reims is a lovely city. The Cathedral de Notre Dame where most of the kings of France were crowned is magnificent and in the city center.

The houses with tastings and tours of the cellars are all over town. A beautiful place for lunch is the Cafe de Palais near the cathedral.

Thanks everyone! Sounds great! Has anyone taken a day trip to the Bourgogne region? Looks do-able, but can%26#39;t tell for sure.

The TGV to Beaune is really the most logical answer to one%26#39;s request for finding a wine tasting explortary trip from Paris (Bordeaux is really too far in my opinion).

Once you are in Beaune, you have reached the center of one of the world%26#39;s greatest wine producing locations. From there you%26#39;ll have many options to visit wineries (you could almost walk from the train station). Contact the Office de Tourisme for all of your options:

I do recommend against the tours offered by Beaune%26#39;s tourist office. I went on one of those last fall. The guide was local, very nice and extremely knowledgeable. However, the tour itself was not interesting as they just drove us around the different areas and finally, to one small place for tasting and purchase. I recommend that you arrange a private tour guide in advance to truly enjoy your day or tastings.

Many thanks -- I%26#39;m not a big tour person, so hope there are places we can see on our own. But the idea of a private tour guide is an interesting one -- if anyone knows of someone or a company that does this, I%26#39;d love to know -- thanks!
