Eze from Monaco

our ship will be stopping in Monaco (instead of Cannes) for one day this July. I would like to see the medievil town and then possibly visit a vinyard or some other non touristy attraction to have a real french lunch, I can not seem to find any exursions other than the carnival ones that offer this, does anyone have a good guide to recommend?

Eze and St. Paul de Vence are reachable by public transportation if you want to venture out on your own.

To reach Eze, take a train from Monaco to Eze Bord de Mer. The Village you want to visit is at the top of the mountain. When you come out of the station, you%26#39;ll go up a small hill to street level and see a bus stop. Take the bus to the entrance of Eze. Depending upon how your train arrival time links with the bus schedule, you may have to wait. I don%26#39;t think the buses run reliably on schedule, and I waited about 45 minutes. There will likely be other tourists making the same journey, so you%26#39;ll have company! A taxi is also an option. I traveled in October and didn%26#39;t see any taxis around the bus station, As you are traveling during the summer season, you may have better access.

To reach St Paul de Vence(my personal favorite, although both are well worth a trip), you%26#39;ll take the same train Cagnes-sur-Mer. When you come out the bus station, go right, walking through a small covered parking area. Once you%26#39;ve reached the sidewalk, go up a small hill and across a bridge over a stream. There will be a park on your left, and the bus stop is across the street. Take the St. Paul bus to the post office at the entrance to the village. You%26#39;ll see the village as you travel up the mountain, so you won%26#39;t miss it. Again, there will likely be other tourists making the same trip, and you may have to wait for the bus. The trip from the train station to St. Paul is longer than from the station to Eze...a bus is probably the best way to go.

Since you only have one day, it may be best to try for one village or the other...visiting both may be too much when you consider your travel time. The trains run right along the coastline, and the schedules are quite frequent. It%26#39;s the bus link that adds time to your travel. When you buy your ticket, make sure your train will stop at the station you want. Although faster, express trains may not get you where you want to go. I travel from Cannes, so perhaps some other travelers can give you better links from Monte Carlo.

Visit the St. Paul de Vence and read more on this forum for additional info.

I must correct myself...In my directions to the St. Paul bus stop, I said the park was on your left and the bus stop was across the street. The park is on your right, and the bus stop is (still!) across the street. Sorry!

I believe bus 112 will take you direct from Monte Carlo to Eze Village without the need to transfer from train to bus. Note that the bus runs about every 90 minutes so it%26#39;s not very frequent so be sure to check the bus schedule for your return. (When you get off the bus, go to the other side of the road for the station and review the schedule so you know which bus you want to take on the way back, or risk waiting forever).

Also, I believe 112 does not run on Sundays.

The closest vineyard to Monaco is in Nice. There are 2 wines, Bellet and Cremat, with a handful of producers. You%26#39;d need to phone and book a visit first as they don%26#39;t have regular tourist visits. Here are a couple of links to producers, in French I%26#39;m afraid:

http://www.chateau-cremat.com/

http://www.vin-de-bellet.com/

They%26#39;d probably be able to put you in touch with other producers if they%26#39;re not open.

It%26#39;s easy to get to Nice from Monaco by either bus (number 100) or train. You%26#39;d then have to get another bus up to the Bellet area. Unfortunately it was some years ago that I went up there and I can%26#39;t remember which bus to get.

For a %26quot;real French lunch%26quot;, it depends, since each region has it%26#39;s own type of food. A typical lunch in the Nice area would be very different to one in Normandy or Strasbourg. I can recommend the Cantine de Lulu in Nice for good Nicoise food.
