Itinerary help for 3 days

Hi all,

shall be heading to Paris on Friday 11th July (arriving at night)- Tuesday 15th July (leaving in the late afternoon). I could do with some suggestions of itineraries as we have such a short space of time and want to fit in as much as possible!

There are four of us going, all girls in our early 20s and so would like to take in all the culture, fashion and nightlife that the city has.

We will be staying at an apartment in the Latin Quarter, and we are not huge fans of tour buses etc and would much rather explore on our own.

Three specific questions we had were;

1) We wanted to go up the Eiffel tower at night if possible? Is this any good? What time would we have to get there? Is it normally busy?

2) Where are the main areas with bars, as we will most probably be going out, each night after a meal, suggestions of clubs would also be appreciated (nothing with dance/trance music please)

3) Our Eurostar back home doesn%26#39;t leave till the late afternoon, is there anywhere we can store luggage, so we can still get around Paris during the day? Does the station have a secure place?

Thanks in advance!!

At most apartments, you can leave your bags past the time you need to vacate while they are cleaning for the new tenants. You should contact them directly and check. Otherwise, you can store your bags at Gare du Nord.

Sure it%26#39;s good to go up the Eiffel Tower at night. Lines are usually much shorter, and get way shorter as it gets later. Best time to go is in the daylight, just before sunset, and stay until dark when the lights have been turned on all over.

Yes, the Tour Eiffel is open late – we love picking up some bread, cheese, charcuterie, fruit and wine and picnicking in the Parc du Champs de Mars while the sunsets.

The Arc de Triomphe is also open late (till about 11pm in summer). Great views from the top.

The Marais buzzes at night – and is probably my favourite place, during the day, for interesting boutiques. Love the bijoux at Metal Pointus – designed and made in Paris.

The Champs Elysees is tired – but streets off it are still nice. A visit to the spiritual home of leather goods – Hermes – is a must and I really enjoy window shopping in the Rue de la Paix.

If you are interested in art, we love the Musee d’Orsay and the Centre Pompidou. The Musee du Moyen Age in Saint Germain des Pres is also worth a look. Unless you are particularly interested in artefacts from the Middle Ages (and there’s actually lots of interesting stuff), follow the signs straight to the Lady and Unicorn tapestry series. Amazing.

Consider a tour of the bell towers of Notre Dame and definitely go to Saint-Chapelle – the stained glass is gorgeous. While you’re there – and it’s an easy walk from the Latin Quarter – explore the Ile St Louis (gorgeous and grab a Berthillon glace. Yum.

Definitely spend a morning or afternoon in Montmartre – it’s very Paris.

As you have limited time, consider a Paris Museum Pass which allows you to bypass queues at most locations the Pass covers (not the tour of the Notre Dame bell towers, (so go early if you’re interested in that). It may also save you money, depending on your interests.

Have heaps of fun.

Galleries Lafayette (large department store) has a fashion show on Fridays at 3:00 pm. You must have reservations in advance and you do it on the internet by going to their website and then emailing them. The show lasts 30 minutes.

Not too far from Galleries Lafayette is the Opera Garnier which I believe is the most beautiful building in all of Paris. You can go inside and walk around. It is so spectacular. Marc Chagall did the ceiling of the theatre but that isn%26#39;t the only beautiful part. You have to see it all.

I suggest that you go up the Arc de Triomphe (which is at the end of the Champs Elysees rather than the Eiffel Tower. The best thing about the Eiffel Tower is looking AT it, not looking out from it. The view from the top of the Arc is fantastic and you can see the Eiffel Tower from there.

Be sure you get to see the Eiffel Tower at night when it gets dark and the clock strikes each hour (for 10 minutes) while the Eiffel Tower twinkles. You will love it.

Yes, you can store your luggage in lockers at Gare du Nord.
