we will be in paris, france in july and are looking for an amazing restaurant experience. Our kids are 16, 23 and 25 and are sophisticated foodies. So hard to decide. Please help.
Thx

Most creative/amazing is Pierre Gagnaire at Hotel Balzac. No doubt in my mind about that!

Wow - that is a hard pick.
The chowhound consensus at the moment seems to be Guy Savoy – but the degustation menus start at €275 (without wine). We are considering giving it a try when we are back in late spring/early summer 2009 (if we can get our heads round the $AUD 445 (give or take) per head price tag.
We really enjoyed l%26#39;Astrance when we were there in 2006 (before it got it%26#39;s third star) and continue to love Taillevent (even since it lost its third star).
L%26#39;Astrance is small and modern with service that is like a choreographed dance. Taillevent is more traditional (wood panelling like a %26quot;gentleman%26#39;s club%26quot;) with a quiet sense of elegance.
We didn%26#39;t love le Cinque – maybe because it%26#39;s hard for a hotel restaurant to have much personality. The food was very nice, but the atmosphere really stuffy.
The exception, for us, would be the Table du Lancaster (Michelin 1*), and that may be because it%26#39;s in a small, boutique hotel. The food was terrific, though, and we thought it was good value.

Having read hit and miss reviews of Pierre Gagnaire, we%26#39;ve decided not to risk it, so we%26#39;ve booked for lunch at Guy Savoy. If you book over the internet there%26#39;s a E100 tasting menu, with matching wine from E10 a glass, a bit of a bargain for a 3 star.
Personally me and my husband loved Le Cinq, stuffy in a way that gently mocks itself. Where else do you get a stool just for your handbag?

All of the three stars are great. I love Le Grand Vefour for the history, as well as the food.
Regardless of where you end up, I highly recommend going for lunch. The meals are long... three hours and extremely filling. If you go for lunch you have plenty of time to digest and walk it off some. Also, you don%26#39;t get that hit of fatigue as the umpteenth course rolls to the table sometime around midnight. (it is often more affordable, too)

My head is still spinning.
Looked into l%26#39;atelier du joel robochon and didn%26#39;t like the sushi bar seating style.
On the other hand we don%26#39;t want fussy opulence and my son doesn%26#39;t want to bring a dinner jacket. we are celebrating his second safe return from Iraq ( he%26#39;s never going back ) and a bon voyage around the world. we will be too busy during the day to do lunch so diner it is. more feedback, please
thx, jane

In most of the restaurants you can wear just a normal smart jacket or suit, your sone doesn%26#39;t have to wear a dinner jacket.
|||
He%26#39;s traveling around the world, backpacking...so no suit, jacket, etc

I think if you%26#39;re planning to dine at a Michelin 3*, you should plan to dress accordingly. Will your son be comfortable in his casual clothing if all other gents are dressed more formally?
There are any number of beautiful restaurants where you can find %26quot;sophisticated%26quot; food and have an %26quot;amazing%26quot; experience without having to get all dressed up, or pay so much!
|||
At some very fancy places where we have dined – especially Le Cinque as a hotel restaurant – most of the guests were in business or casual gear. Compared with the Japanese couple beside us in jeans, t-shirts and runners, we almost felt over-dressed.
At l%26#39;Astrance, Taillevent and la Table du Lancaster, people were nicely dressed, but not in evening dress. More business gear and/or smart casual.
So, wear something as nice as possible – after all, preparing for the event makes it more special – but don%26#39;t worry too much about it. And just enjoy the great food, where ever you decide to go. (Please report back, if it’s Guy Savoy!)

Some of these restaurants may have some suit coats available for guests to wear. Perhaps you could phone ahead to detail your situations and to inquire.
