'Must see' and 'must eat' Paris in one day = help needed

Will be in Paris next wednesday to sunday for a conference, husband is coming along. I have saturday after 2pm until sunday (flight leaving 5pm) free to see places with husband. Would like to know what the must see sights are which can be fitted into that time (one day only!).

Would also like some suggestions for places to have lunce and dinner over the 6 days.

Thanks in advance for all help :)

Hi

Not sure I can give you the final answer but maybe you can get some ideas from my trip report with pictures http://gardkarlsen.com/Paris_France.htm . Must see places depends on what you are interested in but the usual suspects are Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame etc :-)

Regards

Gard

Without knowing your interests, the best tip I can give you is to open up the Paris Museum Pass site (www.parismuseumpass.com), google maps and the Paris public transport trip planning site (www.ratp.fr) on you computer.

Work out what’s open when using the Paris Museum Pass site, where they are located (and whether they are in walking distance) using googlemaps and, if it’s worth taking public transport, www.ratp.fr for how to get there.

On places to eat – again, likes/dislikes and budgets would be useful.

You wouldn%26#39;t have time to go into the Louvre, but can easily walk around it and through the Tuileries. Depending on where your hotel is, you could easily start at the Eiffel Tower(and go up if early in the day), walk over to Arc de Triomphe, walk down Champs Elysees to the Tuileries garden, past the Louvre and over to Notre Dame. I took Hubby on this same day trip last year when he had to work, only we spent alot of time in Napoleon%26#39;s tomb(Hotel des Invalides) and the military museum.

OR, you could do the above in reverse, and end up at the Eiffel Tower when it lights up at night.

You may have time to do a smaller museum such as l%26#39;orangerie in the tuileries, or Rodin near Hotel des Invalides. It all depends on what you are interested in.

We generally ate near our hotel. If you let us know where you are staying, we can give you more suggestions.

Thank you so much to everyone so far.

we%26#39;ll be staying at the Concorde Lafayette. Haven%26#39;t really set any budget for meals, but would be good to know some good %26#39;budget%26#39; places, and don%26#39;t mind splurging either.

I appreciate I%26#39;ve got probable less than a day to %26#39;see%26#39; paris, so would really like to be realistic and go to some places that indicate %26#39;I have been to paris%26#39;!

OK: Starting from your hotel at 14:30, walk up to the Arc de Triomphe. Head down the Avenue des Champs-Elysees, through the Place de la Concorde and the Jardin des Tuileries to the Louvre. Check out the outside of the building and the glass pyramids.

This should take about 1.5 hours, depending on how often you pause to soak up sights and take photos.

It’s now about 16:00. Head down to the Seine and walk in the direction of the Ile de la Cite. Cross the Seine at Pont Neuf and visit Notre Dame and the close by Sainte-Chapelle (closes 18:00). Give this about 2 hours.

Cross to the Ile St Louis and have a wander around. If you can, get a reservation for dinner at Mon Vieil Ami (try for 19:30). If you go with the carte (rather than the prix fixe menu), you can grab glace at the landmark Berthillon (29 rue Saint Louis en l%26#39;Isle, www.berthillon.fr).

After dinner (21:30), wander back to the Ile de la Cite and catch the RER from St Michel-Notre Dame to the Parc du Champs de Mars and the Tour Eiffel. Spend some time checking out the Parc (and getting up close to the Tour) and then take a Seine cruise. They leave from the Pont de l’Alma every 20 minutes till 23:00.

Walk up the Avenue d’Iena to the Arc de Triomphe and back to your hotel.

Sunday: get up round 7:00 and be ready to leave the hotel by 8:30. Catch a couple of buses to the 18th and visit Sacre Couer and check out the Montmarte area, Give yourself 3.5 hours once there (including a break for lunch).

It’s 12:30. Catch a bus down to the 9th and check out the Opera Garnier building. You need at least 0.75 hours.

13:15: Get back to your hotel, pick up your bags, get to CDG.

Should have added: your hotel is close to the Arc de Triomphe, which is open till about 11:00pm. Make sure you get up to the top one night for an amazing, 360 degree panorama of Paris.

Whereever you eat . . . don%26#39;t forget to eat a nutella crepe, a pain au chocolat and a macaroon!!!

|||

Ella%26#39;s recommendation for Mon Vie Ami is a good one.

Yes Ellas itinerary is a good one, but she can%26#39;t have you walking past Laduree on the Champs for those yummy macarons!!!
