Phone Card for France and Other European Countries

Could anyone recommend a phone card that will work both in France and other European countries?

We will be in Europe for 2 months and whilst we will mainly be in France, we will also be travelling to Switzerland, Czech Republic, Austria, Germany and Poland.

As we are staying mainly in B%26amp;Bs we need to be phone ahead to let them know our arrival time etc - with the occasional call home to Australia (but we%26#39;ll be using email predominantly).

Perhaps we are better off buying a pre-paid phone - or just a phone card in each country?

Advice anyone?

The advantage to SIM cards for each country is free incoming calls.

It%26#39;s always more economical to phone home with a phone card than a cell phone.

We use an international phone we purchased from Mobal for just 50 USD. You only pay for the minutes you use and it works in over 150 countries. I think Mobal is just a US based country but there may be an equivalent you could check out for Australia.

I like the fact that I own the phone and i always have the same phone number when I travel.

For multiple countries and minimal minutes, the Mobal can%26#39;t be beaten. We have one and don%26#39;t have to fool with SIM or phone cards and our people always know our phone # for emergencies. Minutes are expensive, though, so that%26#39;s not the way to go for a lot of use.

I get an %26quot;International%26quot; calling card from Costco. I think it costs $25 and is good for 700 minutes. I think it is a really good deal. If you get one, call them up and find out what number you need to call them at %26quot;from each of the countries where you will be%26quot; in case you have any emergency problems. This worked well for me in France.

Oh, also: you can get cheap calling cards from Tabac shops all over Paris.

In Florence, they have little shops where you can go to make long-distance calls. Their prices vary from place to place but I made long distance calls to my husband every day and it was %26quot;dirt cheap.%26quot;

I notice most of your replies are from Americans. I%26#39;d love to hear what other Aussies say - does it make a difference where you buy the phone card? Are you better off buying them here in Oz or OS?
