My family are sending our parents to nice for their anniversay in august,we want a nice hotel but have a limited budget, the hotels we are considering are the Regence, Boreal, Star and lafayette, could anyone advise which hotel would be best.
Also is their any advice on the cheapest part of town to eat and drink in as they enjoy a little tipple but we have heard Nice can be very expensive ie what is the price of a glass of wine and a spirit.
Many Thanks to anyone who takes the time to answer.

Personally I would recommend The Mercure Nice Notre Dame. They have renovated rooms overlooking private imaculate gardens and a rooftop pool with a terrace bar overlooking Notre Dame Church. Aroound the corner from the hotel is the main shopping st, tram stop and three blocks away is the Gare SNCF, train station.
To eat I would treat your partner to La Rotonde at The Negresco part of leading hotels of the world, go for the set menu it is EUR34 for 3 courses, be sure to check out the hotel lobby, its amazing.
Most people eat in the old town, Cours Selaya, spell check, there are a few restaurants around the port which is not so busy / touristy and looks out on to some impressive yachts.
Have fun.
Cheers

This does seem niggardly. You are treating them but you want cheap.Nice in August is very busy. Paris decamps to Cote d%26#39;Azur in August.Nice is not expensive-certainly not compared to Ireland.Your parents are worthy of better than cheap. Give them something special.I suggest Le Grimaldi Hotel.Nice is not expensive if you avoid Cours Saleya the Old Town.
Drinks prices very reasonable apart from beer/lager.Don%26#39;t be cheap, give them what they deserve.%26#39;Limited budget%26#39;-everyone has one.

There are some cheap and trusty restaurants you cant go worong with for lunch or dinner notable Bistro Romain in the cours and nearby Massena there is a hippo grill, great steaks, good value steak frites and a drink for like EUR14, or 3 course lunch for like EUR20
