does anyone have experience of hiring a car around remy - or avignon - somewhere that doesnt demand a credit card that goes with the driver! we have a credit card in the group but the driver doesnt! I am told by the hire company that we cant hire unless the driver presents a credit card -
We have cash, debit card, credit card not belonging to the driver.....just feels crazy..Any advice on this welcomed.

One assumes the primary financial responsible for a rental is between the driver and the company itself. It does not seem entirely unreasonable that the rental company does not want to take financial assurances from a 3rd party no matter how seemingly harmless the arrangement may be.
You can check with other companies to verify widespread application of a driver%26#39;s credit card requirement:

Is there anyone in the group who has both a credit card and a driving licence? If so, then get them to hire the car. All the companies we looked at when booking recently would allow you to add one additional driver for free - this could be your %26#39;real%26#39; driver who doesn%26#39;t have a CC.
Ideally, the person who does the hiring would be over ?25 to avoid additional charges for a young driver, and I think some rentals have small print about having held a full licence for over a year, but that%26#39;s all from memory, so you%26#39;d need to check.

just to let you know, after worrying a lot, we managed to source a hire car once out there- using my driver licence and my partner%26#39;s credit card - no problem for the smaller car hires. We used the Ford garage in Apt, and took out a Ka car for 251 Euros for the week (they had the choice of a few cars (paying a bit extra was no problem for us, just really grateful we got the car!). I think the credit card thing having to be with the driver, is probably only necessary with the more traditional hire places. There seemed to be quite a few smaller hire places around the towns.
