12 hour layover in Paris airport what can you do?

We have a long layover at CDG in early Dec. Is it fairly easy to leave airport %26amp; what is the most easiest %26amp; economical method using public transportation to reach Paris? How much time do you allow yourself to return to airport and go through security again? Appreciate any information.

What time do you arrive at CDG?

If you have 12 hours, you have time to go to Paris. Get one of the airport buses (Roissy Bus) is the one I like, Takes 45 min to come into towm and stops at Opera Garnier, From there you can walk around to Louvre, see the Seine and go to Eiffel Tower etc.

It takes 45 min to get back to airport (again depending on traffic) plus 1 hour go through security and on time at the gate. I assume you will have your boarding pass already and that your luggage will be checked through?

If you read the thread on the forum about CDG and layovers, you will find that most people recommend you be at CDG 3 hours prior to departure, so figure that into your plans. You can get a good taste of paris in 8 hours or so. Go for it!!

thank you all for your ideas %26amp; comments regarding public transportation. This is exactly the kind of practical information I was looking for!

I would take the RER (8.00 Euro) to the Bir Hakeim (sp?) station right by the Eiffel Tower and then walk up to the Trocadero and then on to the Arc de Triumph. At that point you could grab a bite to eat at one of the cafes. You could then catch the metro to St. Michel/Notre Dame and visit the churches (Notre Dame and St. Chapelle).

Actually I arrived in Paris (first time in Eurpoe) for a 10 day stay and while buying my RER ticket met a person who only had a five hour layover and was going into the city. We got on the metro, got off at Bir Hakeim and dropped my luggage at the Hilton. We then did the above. After the churches she caught the RER back to CDG and I went to my hotel to meet up with my husband who was returning from another part of France. We had a great time and I didn%26#39;t even know her and haven%26#39;t seen or spoke to her since. My husband was amazed that I had seen so much already.
