We intend to arrive from Digne by the scenic train which arrives at the gare some distance north of the Nice Ville (main gare). Apparently it is west of the main Av Malaussena which becomes Av Jean Medecin going south to Place Massena. Does a bus serve this route or is the new metro finished and could be used?
Thanks for any help.

Its no more than a few hundred yards walk really, via side streets - its not on the tramline.Local buses are quite complex - the 4 and 63 go past it, but its really not worth the trouble.

Sorrry, I meant a few hundred yards from the main railway station. If you are headed for a destination a good distance from both, it might be worth your while walking from the Chemin de Fer to the main street Malaussena from where you can pick up a wider variety of buses or the tram.

The new tram is finsished and is just a short walk from Gare de Chemins de Fer de Provence on Malaussena. It costs 1 euro for a ticket which you can purchase at an automated machine at the tram stop and then validate on the tram. The tram stop is called Liberation and it is 3 tram stops from Liberation to Place Massena.
Here is a link to a map of the tram, showing the gare de Chemins de Provence.

If that doesn%26#39;t work, try this link which also has link for downloading the correct version of adobe.

We arrived in Nice by the same route, overnighting in Annot, and had a wonderful time exploring Annot and Entrevaux on the way.
Have a great trip!

Thanks both of you, especially to Soulee for more info on the train trip we will take, actually we will be coming from Switzerland and will probably have to overnight in Digne--any suggestions about hotels there, anyone?

Here is a link to Logis de France hotels in the Digne-les-Bains area. Since you are traveling by train you probably don%26#39;t want the one out of town.
Hotels that are members of the Logis de France organisation have to have certain standards to be members and are generally considered by the French to be good economical accommodation.

Since we didn%26#39;t stay in Digne, i can%26#39;t recommend a hotel but maybe someone else will be able to.
Sounds like a beautiful train trip through the mountains. By the way, I notice you are from California. I was not able to use my high tech chip Visa in Digne at Chemins de fer station. We had to pay cash. I think perhaps the technology couldn%26#39;t handle it. Too remote a location. So be prepared to pay cash for your train tickets and possibly hotel and reataurant in the Haute Provence area. I had no problem with my Visa in Nice.
