Restaurants on Promenade des Anglais or close-by

Going to Nice in a couple of weeks and are staying in the Sheraton on the promenade. Our booking is self-catering.

Are there many places on the promenade that do fairly cheap breakfasts and lunches or close-by the promenade?

And can anyone recommend some good restaurants for an evening meal around the area? Any cuisine suits.

Thanks, Mark.

forgot to ask, what prices would I be looking at also?

thanks.

In my opinion, there are not really any good value places to eat on the Promenade itself. I would stroll along to the Old Town where there is a good choice of options for excellent food at reasonable prices. In particular, I enjoy eating at La Tapenade on rue Sainte- Réparate, Acchiardo on rue Droite, L%26#39;Escalinda on rue Pairolière and La Table Alziari on rue François-Zanin.

For a good value lunch, we tend to go to Le Lunel on quai Lunel facing the Old Port, the great value Bar de la Bourse at place Saint-François or Chez Palmyre on rue Droite.

Of course there is always René Socca on rue Miralheti for a tapas style lunch of Niçois specialities.

For breakfast, we tend to find a seat at one of the many cafés on the Cours Saleya for a café creme and a view of the comings and goings at the daily market.

Bon appetit!

thanks for your reply ellonway, I will bear all that in mind. The Old Port sounds like a good idea for breakfast.

Just been reading on various websites and there seems to be an excellent choice of restaurants around Nice, so I don%26#39;t think we should encounter any problems.

Hi Mark

I noticed that you were staying in the Sheraton -is it the 4 points/Elysee Palace? If so, can you write back and let me know what you think of the hotel? Thinking about staying there in Oct for a long weekend...sounds good with the free complementary mini-bar in each room. Thanks Ava

We just returned from Nice and ate at the Taverna Massena on Rue Massena in the old town twice because it was so good!!

Bear in mind that the Sheraton is some distance along the Prom from the centre and old town - and even further away from the Port. It%26#39;s a very pleasant walk though.

A couple of friends stayed at the Four Points last year and we visited. The rooftop pool has a real wow factor. Its not often you get a 360 degree panorama of Nice like that - they have got away with putting more floors in than is regulation closer to the centre and the view was brilliant.Justified the extra walk in my view.

That was the main selling point for me when I seen the photo of the rooftop pool, which is exactly what I hoped for. Also that its fairly close to the beaches and sea too.

Also, thanks to everyone for the info.

Except for the end of the Promenade des Anglais near the château rock, most of the restaurants there are in hotels. You%26#39;ll do better around Place Masséna and Vieux Nice. In the latter our favorite restaurants are L%26#39;Ecurie, at 4 rue du Marché, and La Voglia, an Italian restaurant on the right-hand edge of the Cours Saléya as you look into the entrance to the underground garage. La Voglia offers large portions, while L%26#39;Ecurie is good Frenchy/Niçoise cuisine. Excellent pizza as well.

For a treat I would recommend you go for dinner at La Rotonde restaurant part of The Negresco Hotel on the Promenade. The restaurant has a set menu and is also available to view online, it is really good value and the restaurant itself is an experience. Be sure to check out the hotel lobby and art work its amazing.

Enjoy
