Honeymoon Cruise Stop

Bonjour!!

My Future husband and I will be making a stop in Nice (Villefranche) as part of our mediterranean cruise honeymoon next year. I was wondering if anyone can tell me how easy it will be to get from the port to the main town, the best ways to do this and any suggestions of things we should do while we are there. We only spend a day here, so we want to make the most of it.

Any help is much appreciated.

Villefranche is not Nice but is only a 15 minute bus ride away. At least by next year the roadworks which have been holding up traffic ought to be completed!

Villefranche itself is pleasant. Apart from Nice, within a few miles are Cap Ferrat, Eze village and Monaco. If you search around on TA you will get plenty of info/advice on those places.

My husband and I just got back from a Celebrity Cruise where we stopped in Villefrance. It was easy to get around here. We got off the ship at the %26quot;port%26quot; there are maps you can get and also signs that point to where you can catch a train to Nice or Monaco. We took the train to Nice (it cost around 3 Euros I think...) Anyway, the people at the train station speak English so if you tell them two round trip tickets to Nice they%26#39;ll know what your doing plus there will be tons of people from your ship doing the same thing...

Anyway, Once in Nice we got off the train and once you exit the train station if you take a left and walk a couple of feet there is a visitor information center. You can get a map there that will be helpful. Just a little further down the street from the Visitor Info center there is another %26quot;tran%26quot; that will take you down the main shopping drag closer to the beach. We walked to the beach and then got on a %26quot;little%26quot; train - it looks like a toy train - this costs around 7 Euros per person - this train takes you on about an hour tour of the city and takes you up a tall mountain that overlooks the city. It%26#39;s a good overview so by the time you get done with the train you%26#39;ll know what you want to walk back to look at.

Hope this helps... if you have more questions about this feel free to contact me -we found it easy to get around here - and don%26#39;t worry if you can%26#39;t speak French - many people there can speak English.

Thank you so much,

This is really helpful information indeed. It sounds like the cruise we are going on could be the same one you did!! I%26#39;ve got posts for all the other cities we are stopping at to get similar info, so if you have any suggestions for these, please do help!!

It will just be so lovely to explore so many places. I%26#39;ve never been to many of them before and want to take the opportunity to do as much as possible.

Your suggestions for Nice sound great. Did you wander about villefranche itself too?

Thanks again,

Laura

Hi,

I%26#39;m glad my suggestions helped - I felt the same way before we left...Thankfully we met a nice Australian couple who told us what to do at this stop.

Anyway, yes you can wander around Villefranche - It is small enough that you won%26#39;t get lost - you%26#39;ll always be able to see the water while in this town so there is no way you can get lost here really. I beleive there is a little %26quot;toy%26quot; train that takes you around here as well - We did not do it here but we saw it on our way back to the ship. I%26#39;m sure there would be info about it at the %26quot;port%26quot; (the building you get off at right when you get off the ships tender)

All the other stops with the exception of Venice we did guided tours - I recommend you do this especially for Rome - there is too much to see there and too many people for you to be able to do it by yourself - if you%26#39;ve never been there before.

You%26#39;ll have a blast!
