new years in Paris

I will be in Paris for New Years Eve, are there any sites or activities recommended for the evening. I looked into dinner at the Jules Vern, but it was too expensive for that evening. I am staying at Le Grand so that I will be close to alot of areas.

I once spent new year%26#39;s eve in Champs Elysees and I was less than impressed. Did you know some Parisians have this strange habit of throwing empty bottles of champagne on the floor right next to your feet? Thankfully I was warned about that beforehand, but it was unpleasant just the same. The fireworks were minimal and at around 1am the streets were almost empty.

Not the best experience at all, I hope someone can give you some nice ideas.

My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary(in 1998)on New Year%26#39;s Eve at the Jules Verne,and it was wonderful. However,you must know that this is a family oriented holiday in France, and a lot of taxis go off duty at mid-nite so that they can celebrate with their families. It is the only time we have ever had trouble finding a cab at the Eiffel tower! We had to walk many long blocks to finally order a taxi at a hotel.
