Train to Perpignan/ Hotel in Perpignan?? Please help!

Hi! I%26#39;m probably going to be arriving from Valencia. I%26#39;d like to get a train from Valencia to Perpignan on a Sunday. Can anyone help me? Are there daily trains? If not, what%26#39;s the fastest and/or cheapest way to arrive?

Also, can anyone suggest a relatively nice (preferably historic) hotel? I found Hotel de France - thoughts on this hotel?

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!!

I was in Perpignan yesterday and will be taking a train tomorrow in the reverse direction as far as Barcelona.

Here%26#39;s what I know.

There are two trains every day from Barcelona to Perpignan. One of these starts in Cartagena, way down south and stops in Valencia at 1.08pm on its way to Perpignan where it arrives at 7.33pm. The train called %26#39;Mare Nostrum%26#39; and note that reservations are required.

One-way fare in tourist (2nd) class is €44.60 if booked on the internet, a few cents more if booked at the station.

You will need to consult www.renfe.es (the Spanish railways website) for the full details. I have noticed from posts in other forums that using the RENFE website to book tickets can seem a fairly complicated process!

Sorry I cannot recommend a hotel in Perpignan, as I have a mobile home (trailer) about 20 miles south of the city to use as a base.

Hope that helps.

Hotel de France is nice, it%26#39;s basic but very central and the staff are really lovely.

You are right in the centre of the old town so a spitting distance from everything.

you won%26#39;t need a car

Hotel de France seems perfect. But, I%26#39;m getting conflicting messages from different sites as far as availability. We%26#39;d like a room ensuite with 2 twins. we%26#39;ll have no car, so we%26#39;ll have to walk every where. any other suggestions if Hotel de France isn%26#39;t available?

Thank you so much for your help! (Starting to get in panic mode)

If you are getting desperate/in panic mode I spotted two hotels in the Avenue de General de Gaulle, right outside the station. One was the Hotel Terminus and the other was Hotel Balladines. There were two others but I can%26#39;t remember the names. By virtue of location they will almost certainly be basic/budget but you maybe cannot tell from the outside.

Thank you for all your posts/help! :)

Hi - first of all - one can usually trust tripadvisor, except in the case of Perpignan. Please avoid the #1 Hotel - Chateaux La Tour Appolinaire. I am not sure what the reason is - its easy to imagine all kinds of conspiracies - but there is an extreme reluctance by Tripadvisor to publush negative reviews of this place - I have submitted 3 balanced, but dissapointed reviews of the place, not one published. My suggestion would be to stay in the town centre if you can, since the best suff to see %26amp; do in Perpignan is in the old town. Its a pretty seedy place with most of the monuments in a poor state of repair, so I would not stay there for much longer than the minimum.
