Apartment Rental Paris - Place des Vosges or Ile St. Louis?

We will be in Paris for a week at the end of July and are looking at a couple of apartments to stay in. One apartment is on Place des Vosges and one is on Ile St. Louis. Which area would be best to stay in regarding things to see in the neighborhood, ease of getting around, etc.? We are a family of 4 with 2 teenagers and don%26#39;t mind doing quite a bit of walking.

I especially like Ile St. Louis for its shops, but both locations are nice. Place des Vosges is a bit closer to Metro stations.

Boy, that%26#39;s a tough one. Lots to be said for both. Maybe Ile St. Louis by a hair.

Ile St. Louis wins out over every place in Paris. Even when the question is asked: should I get an apartment that overlooks the Eiffel Tower or get an apartment on Ile St. Louis, Ile St. Louis gets more votes.

Ile St. Louis is like staying in a little French village. It feels like you actually %26quot;live%26quot; in Paris when you go out into the streets in the mornings before the tourists arrive and you see the shop owners getting ready to open and the delivery trucks arriving as well as the residents walking their dogs or (during the school year) walking their children to the school on Rue St. Louis. There are cute shops, good restaurants, great bakeries and cheese shops, etc.

It is the most centrally located of any place in Paris. It is next to Notre Dame and you can head south to the Left Bank or north or east or west very easily.

I think, hands down, Ile St. Louis wins!

What a great dilemma, you can%26#39;t lose.

|||

It%26#39;s hard to make a decision when both options are good. I really like the idea of staying on Ile St. Louis, but the apartment on Place des Vosges is nicer. I%26#39;m still waiting to hear back about availability for a really nice apartment on the Island and if it is available that will make the decision easier. I like to go for walks in the early morning while the teenagers are sleeping - are there any outdoor markets near Place des Vosges?

I%26#39;d say if you want an apartment for July at all you better call ASAP

|||

Both locations are nice - but the Ile St Louis is my pick. It hasa lovely feel and is walking distance from almost everything (including the Place des Voges).

We stayed on the moral equivalent - the Ile de la Cite - and loved it.

|||

Heh heh - I just chose a place in St Germain over Ile St. Louis because Ile St. Louis has no Metro stops. I was too worried about my 6yo daughter having to walk too far! Have I just made a mistake??

We stayed on Ile St Louis last year and an apartment half a block from Place des Voges this May. Honestly, we loved both locations.

Ile St Louis is special for that unique feel of being on a little island in the middle of Paris. You are literally right in the center of the city and so can walk almost anywhere. It was nice and quiet in the evenings when most tourists left to go back to their hotels.

Our place near Place des Voges was very close to 2 metro stops, Bastille and St Paul. We were also close to several popular bus lines and the Bastille market was a five minute walk. Rue Rivoli and the Monoprix were also very close by and we found we could walk to the Seine in less than 10 minutes. We loved being in the Marais and so close to so many restaurants, cafes and shops.

I%26#39;m probably biased, but I don%26#39;t think you can make a bad decision between these 2 locations. Have a lovely trip......Jo

Well, we decided to go with the Place des Vosges apartment due to the fact it has A/C, a computer to use, and a Queen bed for our kids in a separate bedroom instead of a sofabed. I would love to stay on Ile Saint Louis, but this time we decided to go with amenities rather than scenery - guess we%26#39;ll have to try the Ile next time :)
