Heading to France in four weeks with my partner (beginning of July) and still have no itinerary. I lived in Paris for 2 years (7 years ago!) and have spent time in the south of France (cote d%26#39;azur), as well as the Loire Valley, and Aix-en-Provence and surrounds (I will never forget climbing to the top of Mount Saint Victoire - incredible). I think we should spend 3 days in Paris but what to do with the rest of the time? My partner%26#39;s experience of France consists only of 2 days in Paris when he was 23 (10 yrs ago . . ). He has actually suggested 6 days in France and 5 days in Ireland (neither of us have been to Ireland) - I think spending only 6 days in a country is a waste of time . . . your thoughts please? Oh, and if you can recommend a lovely castle to stay in in France that would be great too!

We love Paris – so 3 days would never be enough time for us to reacquaint ourselves with the City of Light.
Last trip we spent a week in Paris, a week based in Bordeaux visiting the wine regions and a week in Provence, based in Avignon. Saint Emilion was one of the highlights of our trip, as was the Luberon area, including Roussillon.
It was just about enough time to get a real feel for the places we visited – and we didn’t feel like we were spending our entire trip packing bags and sitting in trains.
Next trip, we also want to visit Lyon and Auvergne region – though, in summer, Brittany may be a better choice.
