Villa Kilauea Bed and Breakfast

My husband and I just returned from a 17 day trip to France and we spent 3 nights at Villa Kilauea Bed and Breakfast in the hills above Nice. I can%26#39;t say enough about what a wonderful place this was to stay. The drive up to the villa, maybe 7 miles above Nice, was beautiful and the villa itself was outstanding. The family that lives there is lovely and very hospitable, friendly, and professional. They speak English and are anxious to help you. The rooms (3) are attached to their villa with private entries. Although the rooms are small, the view of the hills from your sliding glass door is beautiful. Natalie serves a wonderful breakfast of home made jellies, pastries, fruit, breads and more. It was quiet and restful to be there after a long day of sightseeing and all the sights are close by. Nice itself is so hectic, noisy, and busy with tourists that we enjoyed being %26quot;above it all.%26quot; They also recommended a wonderful place nearby to eat a fabulous dinner at around 30 Euros each- including wine.

Thank you for your description and insight information regarding Villa Kilauea. We are going to Nice from the US too and have a reservation this summer at Villa Kilauea for 3 nights with our 1 year old son. I am worried about millions things.. is the room/bed comfortable and bathroom clean, as well as the pool? Any advices or additionnal information you would like to share knowing we are going there with a baby? Thanks.

Things to know in advance:

We had difficulty finding the place originally- we followed the directions at their web site from the airport at Nice and had some difficulty- although we did arrive.

The room we stayed in was named Agapanthe which was the smallest with only one double bed. I did see another family there, however, with a mother and 2 young daughters, so the other room must have been larger than ours. It was comfortable and everything was immaculate, but I can%26#39;t imagine having another child/person in our particular room. Also, the bathroom, although modern and lovely, didn%26#39;t have a door to it- only a curtain separating it from the bedroom.

Everything about the place was lovely as I described in my first posting. The family speaks English and likes to interact with guests if you want to. They will suggest places to eat (especially pizza) nearby and tell you how to get to sightseeing -- Monaco, Eze, St. Paul de Vence, etc.

The pool area was lovely, although we didn%26#39;t swim because it was too cool in April/May.

The family has 3 children- a 5 year old, an 11 year old, and a teenage son. They also have 2 marvelous large dogs that roam freely, but are friendly and lovable.

It is about a 30 min. drive down to Nice and all the hustle and bustle. We took the wrong turn going back down one time, but had a wonderful scenic drive through the hillside neighborhoods- and ended up in Nice anyway. This is a wealthy part of Nice and we enjoyed seeing and staying in such a beautiful villa.

The pictures on their website are true and can%26#39;t even show the beauty of the setting.

I don%26#39;t know if there%26#39;s air conditioning. We didn%26#39;t need it. I know the heat comes from the floors.

Hi Idavis,

I%26#39;ve just returned from my first visit to Nice, but want to go back as soon as possible- i just fell in love with the whole area. I%26#39;m looking for a really budget B%26amp;B or hotel for September, %26amp; the Villa Kilauea sounds fabulous. However, i don%26#39;t drive, so is it accessible by bus? (I was amazed by the public transport there-so many buses to so many places %26amp; so cheap- 1 euro everywhere!)

Any advice re places to stay on a tiny budget gratefully recieived! JJ

I%26#39;m not sure I%26#39;d call the Villa Kilauea a %26quot;budget%26quot; B %26amp; B by $ standards (approx. 110 Euros / night I think.) For us that%26#39;s about $160 / night.

Yes, there is a bus that comes up the hill to about 3/4 mile or less from the Villa. It%26#39;s a bit of an uphill walk for us as we are in our 60%26#39;s, but you might think it%26#39;s not much. You can write an e-mail directly to the owners from their web site and ask about the bus.

Many thanks for your reply, unfortunately, don%26#39;t think it would be suitable what with the walk %26amp; hills. Shame, as it sounds lovely.JJ
