wWth an apt -who works for whom?

I am reflecting on my Paris VIP apt experience and comments I am seeing in different threads.

I assumed for no logical reason that the onsite manager works for the listing company ie VIP. Then I read that certain owners list their apts with companies like VIP AND list them on their own websites. This leads me to believe that onsite managers work for the owners.

In my case, this means the owners did not want VIP to know there was construction in my bldg and that VIP has little to say about whether a third party%26#39;s employee returns phone calls in a timely manner.

Also any discounts after the fact for problems encountered are the decision of the owner not the Agency.

As I read the threads, very few of us actually have problems. But it would be nice to know who are problem is with!! Dave

You never know unless you ask ahead of time. With many apartments, there%26#39;s an individual who%26#39;s employed just to meet you there and give you the keys. There%26#39;s not necessarily any %26quot;on site%26quot; manager or even anyone to call (though usually there is) with questions or problems.

It%26#39;s also not unusual for there to be construction going on in the building, outside the building, etc. I know of someone who paid a fortune for a Paris Perfect apartment and was dismayed to arrive and find the entire front of the building covered with scaffolding. And, someone checked into Hotel Champs de Mars to find serious street work going on outside with pneumatic drills early in the morning.

I%26#39;ve often found with Hotwire that there are some ridiculously low room rates at otherwise superior hotels because rooms are being reburbished or there are renovations going on during your stay - but no mention whatsoever on the web site.

Worst was a friend and her daughter who went to Hotel Saint Jacques to check in and found that the elevator was being repaired/replaced and would not be available during their stay. The gent at the front desk handed them the key to a room on the 6th floor saying, %26quot;And, don%26#39;t expect any help from me with your bags.%26quot; They did not stay.

The Vacation-in-Paris agency is located in the US, so if the owner does not mention anything they%26#39;d never know unless someone who stays there reports back. There%26#39;s not much an apartment owner can do if the owner of another apartment in the building is renovating, which I%26#39;ve heard is difficult to schedule, never takes place on schedule, and always takes much longer than promised. And, with many VIP apartments, you receive the keys in the mail before leaving and then mail them back.

After a stay with Paris Perfect, I discussed some problems with the owner, and we were offered a complimentary week stay, so that made up for it and then some!
