Airport Shuttle (Golden Air)

We%26#39;re arriving at Orly in June and plan on taking a shuttle to the Paris hotel since navigating all the Metro station stairs with luggage is not an option for us. Someone has recommended GoldenAir Van Service. Does anyone have experience with them?

I have no personal knowledge of Golden Air but in general I am not a fan of shared shuttle services in Paris. They seem to have more than their fair share of problems.

In any case, travelling from ORY it is quite likely that an official Taxi Parisien from the taxi stand outside the terminal will cost you about the same as a shuttle, possibly less. Without knowing exactly where you are going a taxi to the center of Paris should cost you about 30€-35€.

My husband and I used Golden Air shuttle service Easter, 2006. We chose a taxi to our hotel (about 48 Euros) , and we chose Golden Air to CDG airport (around 20 euros for two of us). We shared the van with two other couples. We made reservations online at the Golden Air website.

We were very pleased with their service. They were prompt, reliable, and very pleasant. We would choose them again. Rick Steve%26#39;s Paris guidebook recommends only Golden Air.

I thought a taxi would be more expensive. Since the shuttle would cost 38 Euros for two (perhaps with stops) from Orly we would be better off with a taxi, it seems. Just have to avoid the rush hours, I guess. Thanks for the info! By the way, any airport buses going to the Invalides-Eiffel Tower area and, if so, where is the stop? Our hotel is near the Ecole Militaire metro station.

Golden Air charges 22€ *per person* for trips for two people *from* either airport and 19€ to 22€ for trips *to* the airports, only a little less than the cost of a taxi to or from CDG and significantly more than the average cost of a taxi to or from Orly. I think your memory may be at fault regarding the amount you paid. (Rates for solo travellers are a lot higher.)

Everyone%26#39;s experience with Golden Air is unfortunately not as good as yours.Here is a comment from another travel board:

%26quot;Golden Air is an airport shuttle service that can be arranged from their website (how we did it) or through the hotel. We thought we%26#39;d treat ourselves since we were leaving very early in the morning. As soon as the driver took off it was clear he had no idea where he was going for the other pickup. Time was ticking away, he tried to read the map while driving and kept stopping to ask taxi drivers where to go. We were so upset and concerned about getting to the airport on time we almost got out of the shuttle to take a taxi when our driver stopped to ask directions. So much for a stress free ride to the airport ... Be careful with this outfit. If you use it, perhaps demand a driver who knows where he is going. Airline travellers do not have the luxury of time that is required to train a driver on the job.%26quot;

With all respect I%26#39;m not sure why I or anyone else should be impressed that RS has endorsed GA. After all he also recommends that N. American travellers use RailEurope to buy train tickets in Europe, a mistake that can easily cost hundreds of $$ in a single trip. I have no way of knowing if Steves receives any compensation for his endorsement of GA. At the same time I have no way of knowing that he does not...

in any case it is comments like the one I quoted (and my own one and only experience some years ago) that are the reason you will never see me using *any* shared shuttle service in Paris. Incidentally you will not see Parisians using them either. I suspect that they know what they are dong when it comes to the most economical and convenient way to access their own airports.

As it happens the OP has figured out for himself he will actually save money travelling from Orly by taxi vs. the GA shuttle cost so in this case it doesn%26#39;t matter at the end of the day.

PS: I Meant to mention that there is an Air France coach that will take you from ORY to Invalldes. The bus stop at the AĆ©rogare des Invalides is just by the Pont de l%26#39;Alma. Cost is 9€ one way, 14€ RT.

Well, now, things are evolving. Seems as if, for us, the Air France coach is the way to go. Only 14 Euros round trip and the stop only 6 blocks from the hotel. That GoldenAir driver was certainly an exception, not the rule, I would imagine, but it doesn%26#39;t reflect well upon the company. Are there any timetables for the Air France coach and where is the boarding point at Orly? Thank you all for your input!

|||

If you are returning to ORY then the AF coach would certainly make sense. Coaches run about every 15 minutes. The hours of operation and the boarding points at ORY are on the carsairfrance web site.

Have a great trip!

Stay away from Golden Air Shuttle in Paris!!! We went on Rick Steve%26#39;s recommendation (his books are so wonderful) and were extremely dissappointed. They were cheap with Steve%26#39;s discount, but taxis are only a little bit more.

We flew in at 7:00 am to terminal 1 and my friends flew in at 8:00 to terminal 2. We were to be picked up separately. We kept calling them from the airport and they would hang up on us and then not answer at all. You book online before you go and give them a credit for nothing! After I kept calling them they finally picked us up at 10:00 am. When they picked us up they told me another shuttle was picking up my friends at terminal 2. They never showed and my friends took a cab and arrived at the apartment before us.

The driver drove around in circles, while looking at my printed address paper for over an hour. Very dissappointing to arrive and take 4 hours to get to your destination.

During our stay this week, we were there for the train strike during the rugby world cup, so we decided to use Golden Air to get to the airport. They picked us up on time. Squeezed all four of us in the van with the driver and four other customers. We stopped for gas on the way to the airport and then he dropped us off a walk from the terminal.

There is no office, the guy answers a cell phone in his car while driving around. Rick Steves will be getting a piece of my mind next, but I had to post this about Golden Air. Take a taxi.

We had a confirmed reservation for Golden Air to pick us up from CDG Airport in June 08. We landed in the evening (on time) and, per their directions, immediately called Golden Air to advise them of our arrival. We got a recording! No one home! We waited at the airport anyway hoping they would be come to pick us up as scheduled and confirmed. They didn%26#39;t show. We ended up paying a lot more to take a taxi to the hotel.
